Mari and I go way back. Well, sort of. We both traveled to DR in '06 to get our scuba diving certification. So when I re-hooked up with her through the Bikram community (don't you find yourself being drawn more and more with folks who practice?) I was so excited to hear about her experience. Here's what she's got.

Javi and I were sitting across from one another at Quintessence, where we had met for lunch. This was several months ago, when the weather was still pleasant and we weren't getting blown away by the wind just yet. Life got in Javi's way of completing the challenge back then-- but she recently completed it. This is your new blog post. Click here and start typing, or drag in elements from the top bar. Danny is a fabulous work-study at the UES studio. He's been practicing for a couple of months, and this is the first time he's doing a 30DC. MH: How did you hear about Bikram? It was a weekday afternoon, and i had just finished teaching class at the UES. I sat outside on one of the benches, watching as one drenched person after another came out of the room. Curtis, hanging on to his mat and panoply of drinks, came and sat down next to me. We started talking; mostly about the practice, and what it has done for him. I inquired about the 30DC. That’s when I learned that he had in fact done a 60DC, of the lifechanging effects it had had on him, and on the fact that he was in the middle of yet another “challenge”. I lauded him, and all he said in response was “I wish someone had told me about this 20 years ago.” I stepped inside the coffee shop where Carin and I were supposed to meet. Carin had expressed interest in doing the challenge several weeks ago, but predicament after predicament impeded us from actually meeting until now, one day after she had finished her challenge. I recall having seen her around the studio a few times, but little would prepare me for our encounter: I couldn't recognize the gorgeous woman standing before me in her green dress, with a huge smile on her face, paying for her coffee and asking me if I wanted anything. Michael, a Southern Idaho native, practices at the studio in Park Slope. Tracey, a born and raised New Yorker, just recently joined the Bikram community. She practices at the Upper East Side studio. Lauren is a Michigan native who now lives & works in New York. She practices in the NYC studio in Midtown. |
