MH: How did you hear about Bikram?
LW: I heard about Bikram from a friend who practices yoga.  He would do Bikram sometimes and he told me about it. I've practiced yoga for a couple of years on and off but never Bikram. I was curious about it, especially the heat aspect.

Did someone bring you?
No. I decided to do it on my own.  I'm turning 26 next month and really wanted to give myself the gift of well being for my birthday.  I thought Bikram would be a good step toward doing that.

Tell me about your first class.
My first class was great!  It was a random Friday night that I decided to go.  I was worried about the 90 minutes because it seemed like a long time but it flew by. While I don't know that I've ever sweat so much before in my life, I really enjoyed the stretching and the variations on the poses I've done in other yoga classes.  I felt awesome when it was over but I really wanted a shower!

Why did you come back?
I don't exactly know.  I liked the way I felt after my first class and I guess I was seeking that out again.  While the class was tough it wasn't too tough or near impossible the way other classes haved seemed to me.  Everyone in class was welcoming and kind and I didn't feel awkward at all about going on my own.  That was a nice feeling.

Do you have any injuries?
Thankfully, I don't. I had experienced some loss in flexibilty though and I'm really wanting to get that back!

What do you like/dislike about the practice?
I like the "glow" period after class is over. I realize that it takes 90 minutes of sweating and busting your butt to achieve that though which is why I'm willing to go through that each day.  The glow is worth it!

Why do you want to do the 30DC?
I do well with challenges and I hate failing at things.  So I knew that if I put my mind and heart into this, I could succeed.  I'm curious to see what 30 days of Bikram can do to me physically and mentally.

What are your intentions for this challenge? What change would you like to see happen?
I really want to improve my strength and flexibility.  I also think that practicing Bikram everyday could help me make some healthy lifestyle changes too.  It would be great to get close to my goal weight too!  I'd love to look and feel good when I turn 26 at the end of the challenge!

What is your favorite/least favorite posture and why?
My favorite posture is dancer.  I feel like when I'm in the zone I can really push myself in this pose.
My least favorite posture (and probably most effective and influential) is the camel pose.  Opening up my heart like that is really uncomfortable sometimes. It's hard for me to hold that pose for very long.
